Musically, a few things might look surreal and Asake’s debut EP easily falls in that category due to its uniqueness. The brilliance of his musical creativity is indeed commendable.
The extended play begins with the record titled “Trabaye” which opens with some sort of poetry by the backup vocals.
The instrumentation is subtle yet with many kicks and strings which just mesmerizes the listener.
Next is the party-friendly “Sungba” this record is one that has all the elements of a typical Nigerian hit song.
Also, on this record, Asake demonstrates his vocal versatility as he easily switches his voice with the transition of the beat.
For instance, his entrance in the second verse is unblemished. Asake switches to a more melodic tone.
He sings;
Kerosene no dey sleep, I no dey sleep at all (Onyeoma romance)
Onyeoma ko ma ro por por 'cause I'm ready to spend
Ibaka re ko ma gbon gbon gbon, make we Man United (Make We Man U)
This your skin just dey glow glow glow, Baby make we chill oh (Make we chill oh)
The third record is the already charting “Omo Ope” which features YBNL label boss, Olamide.
Just like the title, the song speaks of grace and success and evidently, this is currently one of the biggest songs in the country.
Olamide’s verse on the song also spices up the record.
The EP closes with “Baba God” and it’s safe to save this record must have been inspired by “Omo Ope”.
The song takes one on a journey of life, struggle and success. This is quite an inspirational piece.
Asake has successfully taken his listener on a rollercoaster of emotions in a positive way.
